SCHEDULE:

This is a Full-time, Field position. The typical hours of work are Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with some flexibility and overtime as needed.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Meet with contractors and clients to coordinate work, resolve issues, review outstanding submittals, identify conflicts, and review overall progress schedule
  • Ensure compliance through daily inspections.
  • Review construction contract documents for overall understanding of the project and be able to provide constructability concerns.
  • Review and prepare prior authorizations, change orders, and pay estimates.
  • Prepare weekly progress reports, erosion control reports, and traffic control reports.
  • Troubleshoot site-specific customer and operations issues.
  • Performing survey work as required.
  • Maintain required reports of daily construction activities.
  • Assisting lead/senior resident with liaison between client and contractor.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Bachelors of Science – Civil Engineering / Construction Engineering (or anticipated).
  • IDOT certification or the ability to obtain the certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Strong team player who can interact well with many different audiences and build strong relationships.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment testing and travel to local project sites.

Position Summary

I.C.E is seeking to add highly motivated individual to our growing Construction Team who can effectively communicate with clients, contractors, and staff.  The Resident Engineer / Assistant Resident Engineer will have earned or is working towards completion of their P.E. License Requirements.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Review and prepare prior authorizations, change orders, and pay estimates.
  • Review and approval of invoices and payment applications which may include final payment.
  • Prepare weekly progress reports, erosion control reports, and traffic control reports.
  • Review construction contract documents for overall understanding of the project and be able to provide constructability concerns.
  • Provide construction inspection of work being completed by all contractor operations and be able to verify that all work is being completed in accordance with project plans and specifications.
  • Lead and coordinate project activities including staff as they relate to the contractors operations, including Material Testing and Traffic Control Monitoring.
  • Serve as liaison on behalf of the Client in the field and at meetings with contractors, agencies, and the general public as it relates to the project.
  • Strong leadership with Transportation clients such as IDOT, Tollway, Counties & Cities.
  • Actively meet with Contractors and clients to coordinate work, resolve issues, review outstanding submittals, determine conflicts, and review overall progress schedule.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/activities and personnel at the same time.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

  • Bachelors of Science – Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineering License in the State of Illinois
  • 10-15 Years of Construction Inspection and Management Experience with Transportation Projects including 2 to 10 Years of experience as an RE or Lead Inspector
  • IDOT certification in Documentation of Contract Quantities

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Proficiency in document control software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communications skills & ability interact well with many different audiences to build strong and successful relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and manage multiple priorities as required.
  • Strong organizational skills, prioritization skills, and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter, goal oriented, hardworking, self-motivated with a positive demeanor and excellent personality
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills


Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, bend, climb and crawl to inspect equipment.  This position requires the ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. The work environment is usually dirty, dusty, and noisy, and is subject to inclement or extreme weather conditions.  This position will require travel to various job sites (typically 1-2 hours from the office)

A pre-employment background check, driver’s license check, and drug screen is required.  Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel to local project sites and worked extended hours as required.

  • Coordinate with engineers and contractors to ensure document accuracy.
  • Review and archive project closeout documentation
  • Utilize document management software to streamline workflow and improve efficiency.
  • Support administrative tasks related to construction project documentation
  • May assume other duties as required.

  • Available to work from late May through August 2025

Position Summary

I.C.E is seeking a qualified applicant for a Document Technician to work as a Phase III project team member to support large construction projects for Transportation Clients, in the Chicago metropolitan area. The Document Technician will be responsible for managing, organizing, and maintaining project-related documents. This role will be to assist the client and the Construction Manager (CM)/Resident Engineer (RE), to observe and record activities associated with the Contractor’s construction progress in a fast-paced environment. The selected candidate will need to be self-directed, capable of independent tasks as well as supporting multidiscipline complex teams, and should demonstrate a passion for involvement in the civil construction industry with an enthusiasm for successful completion of projects that meet our clients’ needs. The Document Technician will have earned or is working towards completion of their IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities Certification.
