Route 19: Irviing Park and York Road

Illinois Department of Transportation

  • The scope consisted of the construction of a grade separation structure that carries the Canadian National and Union Pacific Railroad Bridge over Illinois 19 (Irving Park Road).
  • The new structure consisted of a two-span, steel through-plate girder bridge with a median pier.
  • In conjunction with the new bridge, six new retaining walls were built to retain the newly elevated railroad embankment and reconstructed a new box culvert for Bensenville Ditch. The intersection improvements included widening on all four legs of the current intersection.
  • ICE served as the Quality Control Manager and Materials Inspector for the job. We provided all laboratory services including PCC and aggregate testing, PCC Field Inspections, T-Wall select fill and embankment inspection services on behalf of the general contractor.
