The Adams Street and Jackson Boulevard Bridge Reconstruction project is the last major interchange to start construction as a part of the Jane Byrne Interchange Improvement program that will reduce the congestion for the 400,000 vehicles of traffic that pass through the interchange daily.
The work included demolition and reconstruction of Adams Street over I-90/94 along with retaining wall improvements to the City Streets between the new bridges and Des Plaines Street & Halsted Street. Improvements also featured the reconstruction of the entrance ramps from Jackson Boulevard and Adams Street to NB I-90/94 and exit ramps from SB I-90/94 to both Adams Street and Jackson Boulevard. Additional work included; roadway reconstruction, erosion control and protection, utility relocation of existing storm sewers, non-special waste excavation, special waste excavation, earth excavation & embankment, noise wall construction, removal of existing improvements, pavement markings & signage, roadway lighting, ITS, traffic control & protection and urban enhancements.
