C-93-049-19: I-180 over the Illinois River Bridge Deck Replacement, Bureau and Putnam Counties, Region Two/District Three

Illinois Construction & Environmental Consulting, Inc. served as Prime consultant on this $25.1 million bridge deck replacement project. 

The bridge deck removal replaced the half century old I-180 structure crossing the Illinois River near the Village of Hennepin in Bureau and Putnam Counties.  The project featured the removal of the existing 15 span, 3,043’ long bridge deck supported by haunched web plate girders with heights ranging from 6’-10” to 16’-0” using staged construction. 

Bridge work included sequence pours, parapet walls, median barrier wall, modular expansion joints, drainage scuppers, floor drains, structural steel repair, jack and reposition bearings and concrete structure repair.  Roadway improvement included; HMA pavement, PCC pavement, paved shoulders, concrete superstructure approach slabs, guardrail removal and replacement, pavement marking and navigational lighting.  The project also included; maintenance of traffic, signage, erosion control and protection, earth excavation and miscellaneous pipe underdrain & slope wall repair.
