The new 41st Street Pedestrian Bridge dramatically improves access to the lakefront for communities on Chicago’s South Side. The project scope consisted of a new 1500 ft long double curved steel arch pedestrian bridge over the Metra, Illinois Central (Canadian National) railroads, as well as South Lake Shore Drive (US 41) before touching down in Burnham Park.
The work included; removal and reconstruction of pedestrian paths, bike trials & sidewalks, retaining walls and retained fill approaches, roadway lighting relocation, furnish and lighting installation on the new bridge structure, restoration work for disturbed park areas, construction of composite pavements, concrete curb and gutter, earthwork activities, storm sewer, combined sewers, pavement markings, streetscape elements, irrigation and landscaping.
