Illinois Construction & Environmental Consulting, Inc. is currently serving as a Lead JV member on this $114.1 million roadway reconstruction project. The EOWA I-294 to I-90 – I-294 – North Avenue to Grand Avenue project is a part of the $4 billion Central Tri-State initiative to rebuild and widen the roadway to meet current and future transportation needs.
The Tri-State corridor is one of the most important sections on the Tollway system, as it carries the largest amounts of commercial and passenger vehicles and incurs heavy congestion as it connects residents to the region’s interstate transportation network.
The North Avenue to Grand Avenue reconstruction and selective add-lanes will efficiently and effectively address congestion, increase capacity, and significantly upgrade an aging infrastructure.
The project consists of mainline pavement widening, reconstruction of the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) bridges over North Avenue (SN 233 & 234) and over the I-290 exit ramp to North Avenue/Lake Street.
Additional work includes; retaining walls, mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls, high performance concrete moment slab structures, median barrier, precast concrete bridge approach slabs, maintenance of traffic operations, draining improvements, temporary and permanent lighting, traffic signals, ITS infrastructure, new plaza at Ramp R1, installation of permanent pavement marking and signing, erosion control measure and landscaping improvements, protection of existing utilities, and al miscellaneous appurtenant and other work necessary to complete the project.
